The issue initially was brought up in the first wave of feminism and has been a constant topic through each wave after. This pay gap is due to plenty of reasons like race, sex, disabilities, age, education, to name a few. Though women had been calling out this pay gap for years and years, it took until 10 June, 1963 for real change to come. On that day, the Equal Pay Act was passed. It criminalized paying a person less simply because of their sex. Though that bill was passed, the the issue still persists in today's society. It can be seen in all forms of work, whether it's as a successful business woman being passed up on the promotion simply because she's not a man or it's a woman getting a job unworthy of her skills because she had to go to a uni less than what she was capable of because her male competition beat her just because he's a man. There are things you can do though. You can sign petitions, donate to funds, educate yourself, and put in the effort to educate others. Below are some links to help you educate yourself far more in depth on this topic.
